CHAPIN, S.C. (WIS) - A new police report obtained by WIS is providing more details on an alleged assault involving Chapin Mayor Bill Mitchell.

The Town of Chapin provided a copy of the report on Thursday, which describes events that happened at Chapin Town Hall on Nov. 7 - three days after Mitchell was elected.

Documents state the clerk of court told police that Mitchell, then the mayor-elect, and several others arrived at town hall just before 9 a.m. that morning. Mitchell reportedly told the clerk he was there to be sworn in, and the clerk contacted town administrator Nicholle Burroughs.

The report also states that “it should also be noted that town staff was unaware that a swearing-in would be occurring that day for the mayor-elect.”
