WHITEWATER, Wis. (WKOW) — The UW Board of Regents has approved the University of Wisconsin–Madison's proposal to create a College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence.

The announcement on Thursday marks a significant step forward in education for the age of AI.

The university said the new college will build on the strengths of the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS), which has grown rapidly since 2019. Planning and consultations will take place over the next few months, with an official launch expected by July 1, 2026, according to a press release.

UW-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin expressed excitement about the approval.
