JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As families exchange gifts and gather for the holidays, two Florida mothers are delivering something far more meaningful than anything wrapped in a bow.
They’re spreading comfort, connection, and celebration to parents who unexpectedly join what they lovingly call “the lucky few” : families welcoming a baby born with Down syndrome.
For Lauren Hatch in Alachua, that moment nine years ago wasn’t met with celebration.
When her son Ethan was born, she remembers the worry in the voices delivering his diagnosis.
“I didn't have that experience when my son was born,” she said. “I understand how disappointing it can feel to not have people celebrate your baby when you're so excited and you've just gone through this amazing experience.”
