LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jefferson County Board of Education leaders want to press pause on the superintendent’s plan to close and consolidate schools to save money.
The JCPS board chair and vice chair released a statement saying they will introduce a motion to pause at Tuesday’s meeting.
Last month, Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood announced plans to close Liberty High and Zachary Taylor Elementary and consolidate King Elementary students into Maupin Elementary.
Community forums were held this week where many parents voiced their displeasure with the proposed changes.
In response, the board will ask Yearwood to dedicate additional time and resources, providing a more thorough and detailed justifications for each recommendation.
