LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A proposal to close and consolidate several Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) next year will soon on pause.
Leaders from the district's Board of Education announced Friday they will recommend pausing consideration for Superintendent Brian Yearwood's proposal, which would have had significant changes to multiple schools in 2026.
Among the recommendations , two schools would be closed while several others would be consolidated or relocated due to “low enrollment and costs.”
Yearwood said his proposal seeks to address JCPS' $188 million budget deficit, but a dmitted layoffs and additional schools couldn't be ruled out.
