DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham Police's third quarter crime report shows overall violent crime is reportedly down compared to 2024, but safety is on the minds of community members.

"I lost two sons due to murder in Durham," Abdul Burnette said.

Burnette lost two of his sons to gun violence in two separate shootings this year that happened less than two months apart.

Burnette started an organization called "Dads Against Gun Violence" in hopes of bringing families of victims of gun violence in the Bull City together.

"My goal ... is to help stop the murder rate in the city of Durham ," Burnette said.

Property crime is also decreasing in the Bull City, however, there have been some break-ins.

At the Bean Flower on University Drive, the owner, CC Chu, said the business was broken
