What does it mean to live in the richest country in the world? You might say it means no one goes hungry. You might say it means everyone has easy access to healthcare. Maybe it means little Jimmy doesn’t die a completely preventable death. But if I asked you what it means to live in America, is that really how you’d answer?
The simple truth is we do not live up to the promise of America. We can’t call ourselves the greatest nation on Earth while we fail to ensure one of the most basic rights: healthcare for all. Most other high-income nations provides it universally, and yet millions fear the finances of getting care.
We can do so much better. So why don’t we?
