A drunk woman shouted racist abuse at a student sandwich shop worker before making-off with packets of crisps. Julie Lowery walked into the Durham City branch of Subway late one evening in June before launching into a tirade of racist slurs.
Fearful that the 43-year-old would try and get behind the counter, the shaken staff member called the police, which prompted Lowery to pick up packets of crisps and walk out without paying, magistrates heard. Lowery, of Pattinson Gardens, in Gateshead , has now been hit in the pocket after she pleaded guilty to a racially-aggravated public order offence and shop theft.
