Davenport, Iowa (KWQC) - With more snow on the ground and cold temperatures holding steady, more people will be out and about enjoying the great outdoors.
Some winter activities include snowmobiling, ice skating, and ice fishing, but every year first responders stress the importance of safety.
First responders say it’s imperative for those who plan to hit the ice, to prepare ahead of time, especially if your plans include ice fishing.
That means making sure you have a pair of cleats, and a chain to attach to your boots, and make sure you have a good set of ice picks.
Once you’ve got all of those items and you’re ready to go on the ice, make sure you check the ice as you go by drilling holes to measure the ice’s thickness, first responders said.
