Strike action by hundreds of Metrolink drivers in Greater Manchester is back on after the rejection of proposals tabled by transport bosses, a union revealed today.
Around 320 drivers in total will walk out in a dispute over working patterns and rest breaks union bosses say are causing dangerous levels of fatigue. One strike date has been pencilled in for New Year's Eve with another for the last Friday before Christmas , traditionally one of the busiest days in the city centre and elsewhere.
Planned industrial action was postponed at the start of December for negotiations, but the union Unite said on Monday its driver members had 'overwhelmingly voted to reject the company's proposals for tackling driver fatigue'.
