A leading high street bank has issued an urgent warning to customers after hundreds of pounds have been lifted from accounts, with Santander revealing that nearly £50,000 has been taken from victims over the past 12 months. The bank reports that females have been the primary targets.
In light of this, Santander is cautioning customers and festive shoppers to avoid taking "serious risks" during December. It follows reports of almost £50,000 being stolen from unknowing victims by scammers selling fake beauty treatments, reports the Mirror .
The fraudulent schemes include everything from fake perfumes and cosmetics to Botox, lip fillers, collagen treatments and other aesthetic procedures, according to the bank. Approximately two-thirds (68%) of reported cases at Santand
