DETROIT - A group of Michigan lawmakers and local officials are urging U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release on bond a Detroit construction worker who has a pending green card application and is authorized to work in the country.
Ernesto Cuevas Enciso, 34, and another worker were near an Ypsilanti job site Saturday, Dec. 6 when an unmarked vehicle approached them, and they were arrested by immigration officials, the lawmakers said.
“Ernesto is a hard working immigrant man who cares for his family and has been attempting to follow our nation’s pathway to become a green card holder,” a Dec. 7 letter said . “He is not a safety risk and deserves to be home with his wife and young child, not held in detention while awaiting his hearing.”
