A crash near the west end of the Hood Canal Bridge closed traffic for several hours on Tuesday, Dec. 9, according to Washington State Patrol.

According to a social media post by WSP, a trailer truck towing a garbage truck early in the afternoon was driving east on Highway 104, toward the bridge, when it lost control and hit a utility pole. The two truck's brakes did not work, according to an early report posted to social media by WSP Trooper Katherine Weatherwax. In addition, the truck had to be towed away from the scene because it was leaking fuel.

Traffic backed up on both sides of the bridge after it closed to traffic due to the crash. Traffic was alternating by around 4 p.m., according to Weatherwax and the Washington State Department of Transportation.
