WASHINGTON — After years of delays and a $200 million investment, the District is beginning the wind-down of the DC Streetcar.
The service that runs along H Street NE and Benning Road NE from Union Station to Oklahoma Avenue NE will shut down on Mar. 31 due to budget constraints and low ridership that never recovered since the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, D.C.'s Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that starting on Jan. 4, riders will start seeing a reduction in service that includes:
No service on Sunday
20-minute frequency
Mon. - Fri. 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Currently, the streetcar runs every 12 minutes, according to DDOT.
