A stranded deer reportedly spent nearly a month trapped inside a 20-foot concrete retention pond before authorities were contacted.
The deer was trapped behind The Jackson Apartments on Greison Trail and is now safe after a coordinated rescue effort involving the Newnan Fire Department and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Battalion Chief John Byrom said the fire department learned of the situation late last week after DNR officers contacted the Newnan Fire Department about the animal, which residents had reportedly been feeding since early November.
The deer had apparently jumped a decorative fence surrounding the pond, not realizing there was no ground on the other side.
