A paedophile pensioner who manipulated and abused a young girl was unmasked and arrested thanks to a Sarah's Law application. Henry Renton may have appeared to be a kindly old man but beneath the façade lurked a predator.

Now the 81-year-old, already serving a 15 year sentence for multiple child rapes, is facing more time behind bars for raping and sexually abusing a youngster in Northumberland and his barrister said he is likely to die in prison.

His latest abuse came to light when the girl's dad got a phone call from social services suggesting he make a Sarah's Law application, in which a parent or carer can check if someone poses a risk to a child. When this was done, it revealed Renton was a convicted child sex offender.
