ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The postseason ban for Brunswick High School’s football team following a massive on-field brawl with Gainesville High last month was lifted Wednesday.
Thirty-nine of the team’s 41 suspensions were also overturned.
The board of trustees for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) overwhelmingly voted to lift the team’s one-year postseason ban and overturn the suspensions.
In an 11-to-1 vote, the board downgraded the program’s probation to a “severe warning,” meaning the Brunswick Pirates will remain eligible for postseason play next season.
The board left in place the suspensions of two of the 41 players who were penalized after the fight.
