MARIETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — In a unanimous vote, the Cobb County Board of Education adopted a cell phone ban required under Georgia’s new “Distraction-Free Education Act.”
“Hopefully we’ll be able to come to solutions that work for everyone,” said Superintendent Chris Ragsdale.
Under the new policy, K–8 students are prohibited from using any electronic device during school hours, even during breaks. The ban includes cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches and e-readers.
“Headphones are now not allowed for student use, so that’s a different change,” said Post 2 board member Becky Sayler. “The law is going above and beyond what our restrictions have been.”
Ragsdale noted that teachers were already managing devices effectively, adding that cell phone incidents accounted for just 0.02%
