LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain City Schools Board of Education Vice President Barbie Washington was recognized Monday by the Ohio School Boards Association for her leadership, professional development and service to students and the community.

A lifelong Lorain resident, Washington has deep-rooted connections to the district through family involvement, volunteer service and her advocacy for family engagement and local control. She is also a founding member of the community organization It Takes a Village, according to a Lorain City Schools news release that praised Washington for her dedication, preparation and leadership in support of strong public education and the Lorain community.
