ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Spalding County deputy died Tuesday following a car accident that was possibly caused by a medical event, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputy Joe Crumpton died Tuesday at Fayette Piedmont Hospital after more than an hour of life-saving efforts following the accident, the sheriff’s office said.
Crumpton was in cardiac arrest when he was taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. A Fayette County Emergency Services employee found Crumpton unconscious in his vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
