ANN ARBOR – During his final news conference as Michigan head football coach on Monday, Sherrone Moore lauded the Wolverines’ 2026 recruiting class, calling it a “special group of freshmen.”

The 39-year-old was fired with cause by the university on Wednesday – one week after national signing day. Michigan signed 27 recruits this cycle, headlined by two five-star recruits and 11 prospects ranked inside the top 250 nationally.

Keeping them in the fold will be a top priority for interim head coach Biff Poggi or whoever Michigan hires as Moore’s replacement. On Thursday afternoon, four-star tight end recruit Matt Ludwig became the first signee to be granted release from his financial aid agreement he signed last week, according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.
