ANN ARBOR – The fallout from Sherrone Moore’s firing at Michigan has extended to the Wolverines’ 2026 recruiting class.

On Thursday, four-star tight end Matt Ludwig out of West High in Billings, Montana became the first Michigan signee to be granted release from his financial aid agreement he signed last week, according to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.

The blue-chip recruit was one of Michigan’s most important prospects this cycle, ranked as the No. 242 player and No. 12 tight end in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.

“I requested my release from Michigan and I’m opening up my recruitment,” Ludwig told Rivals . “Michigan did approve my release.”

Since Ludwig was granted his release, other programs are once again permitted to contact him.
