Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara told the Legislative Council on Thursday that fixing a 70:30 ratio between direct recruitment and promotions for Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) posts has strengthened both administrative efficiency and field performance.
Responding to member DT Srinivas, he said the PSI role central to law and order, crime prevention , investigation and traffic management—demands physically and mentally fit officers with strong technical skills, especially as modern crimes increasingly involve advanced technology.
While constabulary staff normally rise through two levels of promotion before qualifying for PSI rank, their relatively modest educational background can make handling today’s tech-driven crime challenges difficult.
