ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — On Thursday night, the Cobb County School District voted to begin the process of adopting Georgia’s new, statewide mandate that bans the use of personal electronics in elementary and middle schools.
The new rule bans the usage of cell phones, headphones, smartwatches and reading tablets during school hours, including breaks.

One Cobb County mother, Ja’Nise Dennis, worries about how this will affect her daughter, who is on the autism spectrum.
“She’s nine years old, and she uses her phone only in emergencies, and we’ve had several emergencies this school year so far,” Dennis said.
