PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania man is set to serve over five years in prison after he defrauded the Department of Veterans Affairs out of $500,000.
Ahmed Hassan, 71, of Collegeville, was sentenced to 64 months in prison and three years of supervised release for allegedly stealing over $500,000 from the VA when he worked for them. Hassan was charged in 2021 and was convicted in October 2024 by a federal jury on 22 counts of wire fraud.
Hassan, during his time at the VA, was a supervisory engineer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (“VA Medical Center”) in Philadelphia and was responsible for overseeing all mechanical and HVAC system contracts in his area. From 2013 to 2017, Hassan submitted false invoices as a fake company to steal money from the VA.
Hassan must also pay $565,0
