UPDATE : The man killed at the Cub Scout archery event has been identified
One person died and 13 others were injured in a lightning strike Wednesday night in Jackson Township, Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz told NJ Advance Media.
The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. at Black Knight Bowbenders, an outdoor archery range in town, according to Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy.
A 61-year-old man died from his injuries, and 13 others were being treated for various injuries, including burns, Kunz said. One person lost consciousness but later regained it.
The man was not identified Wednesday night.
The injured people range in age from 7 to 61 and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, the chief said.
