CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Newton police officer charged with murder is now out on bond.

Lt. Carlos Uribe posted a $100,000 bond Tuesday afternoon.

In court, prosecutors laid out new details about why they say Uribe unlawfully killed a man while on duty.

Uribe stood in a jumpsuit before a judge Tuesday on a second-degree murder charge, accused of unlawfully using deadly force while on duty, killing 21-year-old Camden Childers on June 26.

That night, investigators say they were initially trying to pull over Childers on his motorcycle for speeding and reckless driving.

Police said Childers didn’t stop, and Tuesday in court, prosecutors gave new details saying police chased Childers three separate times during that one incident.
