GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in the 2022 death of an accused kidnapper shot and killed by police in Gastonia.

The mother of Jason Lipscomb filed the lawsuit against the city of Gastonia and the Gastonia Police Department officers involved in the case — Juan Pablo Sepulveda Cadavid, Jason Lee Beaver, Harrison Hamorsky and two others — accusing them of killing the 21-year-old when he allegedly was no longer a threat to their safety.

The gunshot that killed Lipscomb came while he was driving away from officers, the complaint claims. On the day of the shooting, officers did not have an arrest warrant for Lipscomb, nor was there a threat to public safety outside of a domestic custody dispute.
