These are words that this week’s Portrait, Stephen Maciejewski, embodies. Sometimes called “The Birdman,” he’s a founding member of Bird Safe Philly and has spent decades working to stop the carnage of bird deaths in the city. According to the Public Library of Science Journal, as many as one billion birds die in the U.S. each year from colliding into buildings and other human-made structures, often while migrating at night. Lights Out Philly is a campaign designed to help make Philadelphia safer for our fine feathered friends.
