OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Organized chaos was the scene at Daviess County High School on Tuesday as first responders simulated a school shooter scenario.

Authorities say this is the first time they’ve run a 2-story drill with victims on both floors.

The goal was simple: extinguish the threat and help victims as quickly as possible.

Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman highlighted the importance of speed in these types of operations.

“When you pull up to one of these events and you hear a gunshot, someone else just died, is how we look at it, so you don’t wait you go in,” Youngman stated.

Volunteers played the roles of shooters and victims while the different departments worked during the emergency.
