OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - In Owensboro, the police department held their final “Police in the Park” event for the summer.

Tuesday’s gathering was at Moneta Sleet Junior Park on Walnut Street.

Officers say they host these gatherings in an effort to meet and connect with community members.

Officers grilled hot dogs and made snow cones with the kids.

OPD highlighted one of their special units at each event this year.

Today, the hazardous device unit was there showing off their gadgets.

“We have a blast every time we do this, there’s always a mixture of adults and children alike. This is for anyone in the community, it’s not just one particular group,” says OPD PIO Mark Hammonds.

Officials say they encourage everyone to come out when “Police in the Park” starts back up again next summer.
