WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - PBS Kansas kicked off a 24-hour pledge drive on Wednesday to raise money lost after the U.S. Senate passed a bill cutting federal funding for public broadcasting.

PBS Kansas said the $1.2 million accounts for 24 percent of the station’s budget. Leadership said the cuts make it even harder to navigate on a tight budget.

“We’ve done a great job already managing a tight budget. There’s not a lot of areas where cuts can be made,” said Jeremy Koehler, the Chairman of the PBS Kansas Board of Trustees. “That’s why we need our donors to show how much they love PBS Kansas and how important it is to them.”

The pledge drive ends at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
