BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Fifteen Alabama firefighters are back home after spending two weeks in Texas assisting with search and recovery efforts following catastrophic flooding.
The firefighters were deployed as part of Alabama Task Force 2.
Firefighters were pulled from departments in Hoover (5), Mountain Brook (4), Vestavia Hills (2), Guntersville (2), Fort Payne (1), and Decatur (1).
The team was first sent to Sisterdale, Texas, before moving upstream to Hunt, near Camp Mystic.
The mission was to conduct swift water rescues, search efforts, and recovery operations in flood-damaged areas.
“What we saw in Hunt and Sisterdale was devastating,” said Lt. Eric Meyer with the Mountain Brook Fire Department. “The floodwaters had destroyed buildings, uprooted trees, and left debris eve
