The Des Plaines City Council will honor the Des Plaines Theatre with a proclamation marking its centennial Monday night.
The Des Plaines Theatre opened on Aug. 9, 1925, as a home for vaudeville acts and motion pictures. It focused on movies starting in the 1930s but returned to being a venue for live performances after reopening in 2021, following purchase by the city and a multimillion-dollar renovation.
A parade, special performances and other activities are planned for Aug. 9.
The council meeting is set for 7 p.m. at city hall, 1420 Miner St.
