The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board is starting its search for a new district superintendent after Dr. Shane McCord announced he will retire after the 2025-26 school year, having spent eight years in the district’s top administrative position.
In an executive session last week, board members conferred with legal counsel on the matters related to contract negotiations and other aspects of the search.
While the discussion during the closed session is confidential under state law, they unanimously voted in public to accept the unspecified guidance they received.
It was only last year that the board gave McCord a three-year extension on his contract, expiring June 30, 2027.
He is the second superintendent of a district serving Gilbert to announce his retirement after the current sch
