SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — With football season fast approaching, athletic trainers are preparing to play a pivotal role both on and off the field.

Athletic trainers’ responsibilities extend far beyond game-day care. From taping ankles before kickoff to monitoring the early symptoms of concussions, they are integral to both performance and safety. Their expertise is critical not only in managing injuries but also in fostering long-term athlete health through preventive measures.

“We’re the Swiss Army knife of medical services,” said Lance Champagne, an athletic training supervisor with Ochsner LSU Health who serves Grambling State University and Centenary College.
