PORTLAND, Ore. — The Skidmore Fountain MAX station will close permanently on Aug. 24, TriMet announced Monday , marking the fourth closure of a downtown Portland station along the Red and Blue lines following the 2020 shuttering of the Kings Hill/SW Salmon station and the pair of stops at Mall/SW 4th and Mall/SW 5th.
The TriMet board approved the closure more than a year ago , but the resolution specified that it wouldn't happen until August 2025 in order to give the agency time to build out the required track signal changes to allow trains to safely pass through the former station without stopping.
The rationale for closing Skidmore Fountain is the same as it was for the other three: the station has low ridership and is located very close to another station — Old Town/Chinatown is
