AUSTIN, Texas — Texas State Representative Brad Buckley has filed a bill to replace the STAAR Test and make other changes to the state's education system.

Buckley announced on social media on Monday, Aug. 4 that he had filed House Bill 8, which he describes as a "landmark assessment reform bill" that will replace the STAAR test with a "smarter, more transparent system."

Buckley said the bill is meant to give families "real insight" into student progress, support teachers and ensure school districts are "fairly evaluated with clear, predictable results."

According to Buckley, the main points of the bill are as follows:

Repeals the STAAR test and reduces overall testing.

Tests spread throughout the year reduce pressure and better measure student progress.
