A police officer on a motorcycle was hurt in a crash while trying to pull over a vehicle in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Monday morning, the city said.

The incident took place about 11 a.m. on Plum Island Turnpike, according to the city marshal. The officer, who had his lights and sirens going at the time of the crash, is expected to survive.

Officials didn't say how seriously the officer was hurt — he was taken to a hospital for treatment — or how the crash took place, including whether the police motorcycle crashed with the vehicle it was trying to pull over or another vehicle.

It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was set to face charges in the crash, which remained under investigation.
