HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A plan to turn the former Homewood City Jail into a pocket park and high-end restaurant has been withdrawn by the developer.
The City of Homewood supported the idea to split up the half-acre lot brought by developer Mike Mouron, but another Homewood businessman sued the city and Mouron, claiming the city ignored his interest in purchasing the unlisted property in 2022.
A judge dismissed those claims , but Homewood Mayor Alex Wyatt said the process had taken a toll.
“Unfortunately, and I understand this, he’s decided not to go forward based upon a frivolous lawsuit that was filed, and some other attacks that have been made on him. He just felt like it was not worth going through all that,” said Mayor Wyatt.
