CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - DMV woes continue across the Tar Heel State from increased wait times for customers to a decrease in employee morale. The Office of the State Auditor just wrapped up two audits: one looking into DMV performance, the other an audit of the information systems.

With more than 10,000 people moving to North Carolina each month, the state is certainly feeling the growing pains, probably no department feeling it more than the DMV.

With a goal of “finding opportunities where the DMV can course correct and effectively serve North Carolina citizens”, the state auditor has been digging to get to the root of the DMV’s challenges.

“The DMV’s structure and bones is based on cobalt. That’s one step ahead of TRS-80 (a microcomputer from the 70’s). Folks, we’ve got to do better.
