IRONDALE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - As families prepare for the start of a new school year this Thursday, August 7, local law enforcement is urging drivers to slow down, stay focused and be mindful of children and school traffic.
While many parents are busy checking off school supply lists, Irondale Police want to remind the community that getting to school safely should be the top priority. With thousands of students returning to classrooms across the Birmingham metro area this week, traffic is expected to pick up—especially near school zones.
Lieutenant Jason Hill with the Irondale Police Department says distracted driving is one of the biggest dangers on the road today, particularly when it comes to student safety.
“We’re going to see more cars, more buses, and more foot traffic this week,”
