DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- A Dayton neighborhood is receiving an outpouring of support to help replace a playset destroyed by fire.

Bomberger Park in St. Anne's Hill suffered a major loss over the weekend when one of its playground pieces was set ablaze, leaving the play structure melted and blackened by flames and smoke.

After the community spent three years collecting $40,000 to replace old equipment back in 2023, the fire destroyed that hard work in just minutes, shocking local residents.

"It's heartbreaking," said Mary Jo Duren, resident.

Investigators believe the fire to be the result of arson.

"We're really just in a state of shock, I mean, why would you do this?" said Duren.

But the neighborhood is determined to rebuild, making sure the playground doesn't stay empty for long.
