Even people in her own party are criticizing Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's pick to regulate Michigan utilities.
Craig Mauger of The Detroit News reports that Whitmer announced on July 21 that she had chosen Shaquila Myers, who previously served as former House Speaker Joe Tate's chief of staff, for a six-year term on the Michigan Public Service Commission. After leaving Tate's office, Myers served as a senior adviser to Whitmer for about six months.
Critics, The News reports, said Myers used her past role in ways that benefited the private companies that provide Michigan's electricity.
Three sources also told The Detroit News they heard Myers, while serving as chief of staff, privately warn against taking actions that would upset DTE and Consumers
