As a plus-size student at a Charlotte university, Geornee Jefferies noticed a glaring gap: The school had no dance clubs that embraced curvy women with rhythm and confidence.
“I’ve been plus size my entire life,” she says. “And I grew up in a world where beauty rarely looked like me.”
To address the void, Jefferies created Curvaceous Behavior (CB), a campus dance team for women where size didn’t matter.
“We believe in authentic representation and celebrate everyone exactly as they are,” said Jefferies, who has danced since age seven.
Now, years later, Jefferies has registered CB as a nonprofit. Its goal is to offer community outreach initiatives, including wellness and arts-based programs. To help fund her vision, she applied for and received a grant from the Arts and Science Council.
