LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A law affecting JCPS is at the center of debates once again.

Senate Bill 1 was passed in 2022 and would affect Jefferson County Public School operations. It was challenged in 2024 and now it’s been reheard by Kentucky Supreme Court justices.

This law states that the superintendent would preside over day-to-day operations and that the school board would be in charge of long-term policy and planning.

Critics of SB1 feel like Kentucky’s largest school district is being singled out.

Matthew Kuhn, the solicitor General of Kentucky says laws are not one-size-fits-all.
