QUINCY (WGEM) - The Quincy Transit Lines have a new bus fleet with no cost to local taxpayers, up to a point.
The $1.5 million worth of new Quincy Transit Line gas-powered busses were part of a state grant program.
“All 10 of our frontline busses had engine failure because of the diesel, so we’re trying something new,” said Marty Stegeman, director of the Quincy Transit Line.
For the bus drivers, they said they are excited about the change.
“It’s a lot nicer. You don’t have the fumes. It’s really nice,” driver James Rehfeldt said.
Stegeman predicts the new busses may have more costs in the short term, but expects it to even out once the busses have more time to settle in.
“I anticipate the maintenance dollars will drop significantly because we won’t have the issues with the diesel en
