BOSTON —

A man was injured late Tuesday when his pickup truck crashed into an East Boston home.

Fire officials said the driver, a 22-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle just before midnight and crashed into a light pole and the home at the intersection of Emmons and Chelsea streets.

The driver was trapped in the truck, which was pinned inside the building, when first responders arrived. Firefighters had to use cables to pull the truck from the home to get the driver out of the vehicle.

"There was so much damage to the house that we had to use a collapse unit to shore up the building in three locations," Boston Fire Department Deputy Chief Martin McCormack said.

The driver was taken to a hospital and is listed in serious condition.
