The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, in coordination with the State Water Resources Control Board, has issued a boil water notice for portions of Porter Ranch and Granada Hills following a valve failure during pump station repairs.

The incident occurred when a valve controlling water flow from a 10-million-gallon tank failed to reopen during routine maintenance, disrupting water service to the area.

The advisory, announced on Wednesday, warns residents north of Rinaldi Street or the 118 Freeway, whichever is further, and west of Balboa Boulevard to boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing their teeth, making ice and food preparation until further notice.

LADWP is advising customers to boil tap water for one minute and let it cool before use.
