RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A Wake County Judge set a new $250,000 bond for a local caregiver accused of kidnapping a woman and forcing her to work without pay.

Saquanna Thorpe, 40, of Clayton, is charged with kidnapping, involuntary servitude and assault. During her first court appearance at Wake County Justice Center Wednesday afternoon, the prosecutor told the judge Thorpe also threatened another woman.

Thorpe, a medical technician, is accused of not allowing a now 61-year-old woman to leave a house on Monsieur Court in Raleigh where allegedly the woman was forced to cook and clean without pay. Thorpe had this to say in court: “These are all lies”

According to warrants, Thorpe threatened to kill the victim and failed to render aid after burning both the woman’s arms in April of 2023.
